Making raised beds longer

For two days we have been making eleven of the raised beds longer in both ends and by this process made the whole section into a lovely droplet formation. In the new ends we mixed in a portion of manure and one of mulch after which we covered it with dry grass as a last protection. What we take away from the experience is that when you get a task as simple as making raised beds longer there’s a lot to think about.

PLANTING ONIONS

 
Today we planted onions on a free space in one of the beds in the garden. When they where in the ground we watered them quite much and put the mulch back in place in between the plants. After that we put up a plastic tunnel over the planted area to make it into a small greenhouse. When all this was done we took the remaining onion plants and looked for areas around the garden where they could be planted.

Open Learning experience at Tribodar: Bulding a green roof

We will make the experience of building a green Roof.

Green roofs are roofs that have plants growing on them. They consist of a carrying structure, a water proof layer, a drainage layer, a filtering layer and a layer of growing medium, such as earth.

They are very good because they have excellent thermal properties. They keep the room below fresh in the summer and warm in winter.

The Tribodar automatic watering system

We first started experimenting with our watering system, last summer. With no real information to guide us. We just started improvising. The results got better as we went on, and we may have finally found a formula that gives all the desired results: to water directly under the layer of mulch, have water soaking into the bed deep enough and evenly, use our water supply with electric pump and expansion tank.

The first thing we did was to connect 16 mm PE tube to a garden hose. 3 mm holes were drilled in the PE tube at +-15 cm intervals, sometimes perforating the tube on two sides.
